Pradeep Kumar Gyawali is a prominent Nepali politician who served as the Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2018 to 2021. He began his political journey in the 1970s with the Nepali Left Movement and became a member of the Communist Party in 1978. Over the years, he held key roles, including serving as a member of the House of Representatives (1999, 2017) and the Constituent Assembly (2008), where he contributed to various parliamentary committees and led investigations into corruption. He was also Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation from 2006 to 2007 and was instrumental in negotiating peace with the Maoist rebels during Nepal’s peace process. Gyawali has been a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML) since 1997 and now serves on the Standing Committee of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP). Apart from his political career, he is a prolific writer, having published novels, poetry collections, and essays, and has worked as an editor for several magazines.
