Mr. Shankar Pokharel, General Secretary, Nepal Communist Party

Shankar Pokhrel is a prominent Nepali politician and the current General Secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist), CPN-UML. He was first elected to Parliament in 2051 BS from Dang-2 and later served as a lawmaker through proportional representation in 2064 BS. Pokhrel was also elected to the Provincial Assembly from Dang-2 in 2074 BS, and during this time, he served as the Chief Minister of Lumbini Province. In addition to his legislative roles, he served as the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Information and Communication in 2066 BS. His political career has been marked by his central role within the CPN-UML, where he also held the position of Central Secretary from 1998 to 2008. Born in 1964, Pokhrel is a key figure in Nepalese provincial and national politics.
